Abbeystrewry Church in Skibbereen is a Church of Ireland church founded by Canon Goodman. Canon Goodman was an uilleann piper and last year saw the first Canon Goodman traditional music festival in Skibbereen. I’m not sure what’s planned for this year but hopefully they will keep it going.
From the Abbeystrewry website:
Abbeystrewry is said to have got it’s name from a Cistercian abbey, the ruins of which are situated on the river Ilen on the road to Ballydehob. A new site was found in the town and a new church was given a license for divine service on 11th April 1827.
The present church was opened by Canon Goodman on 18th December 1890 after extensive renovations at a cost of £3,000 of which he contributed £700 himself.

Lovely picture of the church, did you have to walk far to find it?
Nah, it was just freezing cold with the wind that day.
I am looking for some family history and am wondering where or how can i send my information so I can get more information from the parish of Abbeystrewry? Is there an address that is better? I would really appreciate any information. thanks so much
