“The Onion Seller” is a statue in the Peace Park just off the Grand Parade which I have never really taken much notice of I must admit. This statue by Cork Sculptor Seamus Murphy was presented by the Sunbeam Wolsey back in 1985 so it’s been there as long as I can remember. Seamus Murphy died in 1975 but the website bearing his name has an interesting biography. Last year was the centenary of his birth but events organsied to mark this seemed to have passed me by unfortunately.

For info, the Peace Park is the little patch of grass at the grand parade end of South Mall (it has one of those new fangled mod-ren toilets there).
The park to which you refer is called “Bishop Lucey Park”.
Really? I always just thought Bishop Lucey Park and the Peace Park were one and the same. Thanks for that Toni.
Good picture.
[…] can also see Bishop Lucey Park in the background, not the Peace Park which I had confused it with a while back. One thing I hadn’t noticed about them is the Fáilte sign on the door, such a simple thing […]
I’ve always called it the Peace Park too as would have all my buddies.. Hmm.. this calls for a poll methinks!
Well waddya know.. It’s true:

Although BLP is commonly referred to as the peace park for as long as I remember..
